For over 35 years the names Shiver Security and Sonitrol have been synonymous with innovative technology for high profile integrated security solutions and for its ethical and honest approach for conducting business.
The products include audio intrusion detection systems, and external industrial monitoring functions. Services include sales/design, installation, local monitoring, and technical service.
In 1970 Rex Shiver, father of Raymond A. Shiver, established Sonitrol of Cincinnati as a franchise operation of Sonitrol Corporation. Within six months the franchise was expanded into the Dayton area. In 1991 Rex Shiver retired and sold the franchises to his son Raymond "Chip" Shiver. The company is now known as Shiver Security Systems, Inc, dba Sonitrol of SW Ohio.
Shiver Security Systems/Sonitrol has doubled the size of its customer base and revenue since 1997. The company has been listed in "SDM Magazine" (Security Distributing & Marketing) as "Up and Comers" in the May 1997 issue and ranked among the top 100 companies in 2005, 2006, 2007, and again in 2008.
The enormous growth in customers has created the necessity for Shiver Security Systems/Sonitrol to embark on an aggressive expansion project to accommodate the central monitoring station. The monitoring station will be four times its current size. In addition to the expansion the number of employees will also increase. An additional 4 to 6 operators will be needed to man the monitoring station that operates on a 24/7 schedule. The expansion project cost is estimated at a quarter of a million dollars.
Shiver Security Systems/Sonitrol customers now number over 6,000 which includes third party monitoring for several Sonitrol franchises outside the state of Ohio. Many of these customers have been with the company for over 20 years.
There is a trend among many of the large security companies to downsize by eliminating their local monitoring stations and they have gone to regionalization. However, Shiver Security Systems/Sonitrol maintains that local monitoring of security systems provides our customers with the peace of mind that their families, employees, and property are more efficiently protected.
The first location in Dayton was located at 1430 E. Third St. and became the business headquarters of the Dayton/Cincinnati franchise operations in 1970. The alarm monitoring station was established at the Third Street location. In 1989 the business was moved to larger quarters at 431 Wayne Avenue. In 1995 the opportunity arose to purchase the old WAVIIWDAO building at 1400 Cincinnati Street. The facility was completely renovated and the monitoring station was set up so that it would become a UL approved facility. The current business headquarters is at 1400 Cincinnati Street in Dayton. A sales/service office is located at 6404 Thornberry Court in Mason, Ohio.
Shiver Security/Sonitrol provides its unique audio security service to the business arena. Sonitrol provides the most effective and reliable products.
